Winter food…..The stuff we love to eat….

Standard

It’s been really cold here in Adelaide and so we’ve been cooking a lot of stuff to warm our bodies and give ourselves energy… and eating highly nutritious foods for health too.

Dieting?  No.. We don’t need to because all the food we eat keeps us healthy and trim.. You can do it too. marilynsplanforweightloss.com.au

Here is a few pics of the meals we have been chomping down on the last few weeks.. Don’t get a lot of time to take pics of all our meals due to our rushing to get things done and by the time I remember to take photo, I have eaten most of it…

Here we go…

IMG_0716 My super salad.. I added a little creamy dressing mixed with some white wine vinegar.. Buy the book and see why I mix it with vinegar…

IMG_0717Hubby’s creation of partially cooked pumpkin tossed in a pan with a little olive oil and with a handful of fruit and nut mix sprinkled into it at the finish cooking time.. Gorgeous…

IMG_0720Beef  hot pot.. Had mushrooms and bacon in it too.. He put too much potato on the plate… Yummy…IMG_0723I love a fresh garden salad.. With raw onion.. I ate most of it…

IMG_0725This was one big hamburger… With all the trimmings… Finger lickin’ dripping good fun…

IMG_0726Apricot Chicken..  One of my favs…. With chips of course….

IMG_0748Have to teach hubby how to make the best Pea and Ham soup… This was nice but he always adds too many peas…. It was so thick…. Tasty though.. I am wondering if he forgot the ham?????

So just looking at all this food we eat.. I can tell you it is wonderful to be able to eat the foods you want to eat, and fresh foods too. Not delivered in toxic plastic containers which cause cancers….

Get out your knives and cooking pots and pans and go for it….

Weight loss???  ‘Marilyn’s Plan..’ Keeps us healthy and fit…. and trim too….Love it…

Summer is on it’s way and we are ready for it….

Adelaide Credit Union Christmas Pageant

Standard

Have you ever seen it or taken your children to see it?
This Pageant is the biggest in the southern Hemisphere and it’s fabulous! and we have it here in little old Adelaide..

I’ve seen many a pageant but nothing like this one..
The colour, the floats, the costumes over 250 clowns… Dancers from dance schools, Pipe bands, Brass bands.. my favourite is the South Australian Police band.. Excellent.

They even had a ‘Bollywood’ float and it was terrific. Then the two horses ‘Nipper’ and ‘Nimble’ the two pageant horses with very lucky little girls riding on them dressed as fairies. Something every little girl would give her eye teeth to do..
The keystone cops run around a tiny yellow car and joke around… ‘Nellie’ the elephant which has been in this pageant since 1950 and it still rattles and rolls along. The giant worm, huge Christmas tree, octopus garden, ‘Nasty Neville’ the Pirate, ‘Peter Pan’ The music the atmosphere, it’s a wonderful beginning to our summer and Christmas.
The mechanics in the floats are very good indeed and never once did I ever witness a float breaking down although a year or so ago, Santa fell off the sleigh due to over heating… (poor bugga, he wears a satin outfit which doesn’t breath and it was stinking hot that day) He soon got back on his float and continued the parade, not wanting to disappoint the kids.. Robot Christmas, Aussie cricket team, A Indigenous float (lovely and well presented).
Mother Goose, Grandpa’s Christmas workshop, Elves, pixies, gnomes, and fairies. Stardust Castle,The Cupcake Christmas designed by a school. Jazz in the Park with a miniature Elder park rotunda, The Candy Carnival… I could go on and on but you have to see it to believe it.. 3 wise Men riding camels and the Nativity scene float.

Last but not least is the biggest float of all and the most important, carrying the one character every child is waiting to see. Father Christmas.. He rides in a gorgeous float with an enormous sleigh pulled by all the reindeer on a huge float covered in ice and snow, with beautifully wrapped presents in a huge bag in the back of the sleigh. He gets off the sleigh and is welcomed by the Pageant queen and in to the ‘Magic Cave’ they go with thousands of kids and adults squeezing in as close as they can to get a glimpse of him.. This year is the 80th anniversary of the Christmas Pageant.

This brought back a lot of memories of taking my son to see it and then my grand daughter..I would get up at 4 o’clock in the morning and get my pack ready.. Blanket, 2 chairs, coffee, food, sunscreen, book, and numerous other bits and pieces and catch a taxi into the city and get a seat. I would be there by 4.30 in the morning and sit with all the other people and wait for everyone else to turn up. Blankets spread out for the kids, coloured chalk to draw on the road while they waited and a lot of other things the kids needed. I would have the best seat and it was great to see their faces. I always made sure any other kids had a spot on the blanket with their parents standing at the back.. Oh what fun..

So if you didn’t take your kids to this amazing event, they’ve missed something they might not ever see again. It used to be the ‘John Martin’s’ Christmas Pageant, then they didn’t want to fork out for it anymore so the Credit Union took it over. How long do you think this company will keep it up? It would be a crying shame to lose this as it’s part of Adelaide’s History and I hope and pray it continues. I don’t have any photos because I’m sitting here in my loungeroom watching it. Dropped Grand daughter off at her dance studio for dance class and had to take the long way round due to the traffic chaos around the city for this pageant.

Her dance studio was so close to the Pageant and there was no room to drive anywhere with road closures everywhere but I took my time and went really slowly.. Now it starts… The decos, the cooking,, the pageantry of Christmas and making it special for all the kids who come here.. oohh I can’t wait..
Hope you one day got to see this wonderful event with your kids..

After the sh.. hit the fan…

Standard

After yesterdays fiasco at the Orthodontist and little girl complaining her braces were falling off I called them this morning to tell them I want the braces removed and my money refunded.

The Orthodontist got on the phone and was most apologetic, begged us to come in and get them fixed and so on…
Ok so 515 this evening we went in again. He was so apologetic I wanted to slap him to shut him up.. He went on and on about it.
He did however fix the braces and we decided to see only him in future. He did claim he was the one who put the braces on and the assistant only put the wires on. I did go into the room and saw for myself, the other young girl putting the braces on so he did tell a whopper there..
As far as the account goes… he made up all these excuses for the lack of a reducing bill after all the money I paid but I also decided, when I can see all the money Is paid… He gets no more. I do keep accounts, photocopies and such to make sure there are no discrepancies… $6,500 minus $1,653 = $4847. Sound right to you??? He still tells me I owe him just a couple of dollars under the $6,000 mark… Gee what a weirdo! No more money is he getting out of me until he learns to count…and count correctly…
So little girl is home, with a very sore mouth albeit some of my gum remedy… homemade too… effective to say the least. Poor kid came out at 1130 last night due to the pain and discomfort. My remedy fixed it and she slept all through the night..
Well, that’s it for me for now…

I can’t believe it… $8,500 for a shoddy job…

Standard

Took young girl to the orthodontist today to get braces on her teeth which cost about $8,500.
Drove little grandson and his mum home after her work and then had a look at the braces.
They are so crooked, the wires look like a 3 year old glued them on. 3 of the braces are loose and falling off. Two braces are glued so far to the side of each tooth they will twist the tooth out of it’s socket..
The rest of them are glued so far down they are resting/sticking to the gum line.
Rang her friend who has braces and she emailed us a photo of her mouth with the braces. Hers are beautiful. Straight and dead center.

I’m so mad I could scream.. I was a bit surprised to see a very young girl doing the job and not the Orthodontist who we are paying, so they will be getting an earful from me tomorrow, after I show a certain person who has a great closeup camera…
The Orthodontist apparently came into the room after the first two braces were applied (the two top center ones) and mumbled something then he left her to finish the job. I had my little grandson with me and my mother so I decided to sit in the waiting room..Tomorrow I will be on the phone at 0900 and demand they all be removed and the Orthodontist apply them correctly. Or else! How do they have the cheek to charge so much and yet leave the job to a beginner? She’s probably not even out of Uni yet… Arghhhhh
Will let you know how it goes tomorrow…

After 5 years…

Standard

Sitting here at home today, it occurred to me I’ve been thin and healthy for 5 years now. Almost to the day! It’s really so exciting and every day I get a kick out of knowing I succeeded and never have to worry about becoming overweight again.

My niece tried to talk me into joining a gym and I’m considering it but I do have to be careful I don’t over do it because I just get a bit too skinny. Hubby doesn’t like that…The only reason I would go to the gym would be for the music and the company.. It is fun to dance in a room of others and really let your hair down.. Ahhh… doing it with small weights too would be fun.

Our summer is on it’s way here again and it’s the time of the year which excites me, mainly because I can dress up in pretty things knowing they fit and look good on me.. Going out to lunch is great too especially when I can eat like a field hand and not add the extra kilos! People do look surprised but, no I don’t really eat like that but I can if I want to. I eat less now than I ever did. I love this Plan of mine so much. I wished I could have discovered the way to do it 30 years ago when I could still wear a bikini…

We all have the most amazing health too. No colds or flu or other sickness because it’s just simple and yummy food.. No artificial rubbish.. Very little processed foods pass our lips. We all understand why we eat now and it makes a big difference to our food choices. Every time I think about the diets I wasted my time and money on and failed I could kick myself… I suffered through all of it and never achieved any goals because they were too strict. Too regimental and the food was awful… All precooked and packaged or frozen or just not good enough…

When I read the Advertiser last week and read about young kids dieting I was horrified.. approximately 50% of young kids are dieting… I’d like to know what the parents are doing in all this? Kids need guidance and help if they have a weight problem. They don’t have the knowledge or the skills to go it alone.. They are also suffering from malnutrition and it will have long term effects on their growth and development..

So here I go, to seek something gorgeous in my wardrobe to wear tomorrow.. Hope it’s a nice day….
Hope your day is wonderful too…

Even overweight pets can be on this Plan as well... No starving!

Kids are scary

Standard

I often wondered what the kids these days did for fun on the weekend and after school. Now I know..
Some of them get together with their friends and as their parents have warned them of stranger danger, they think they are ok..
But… Do these parents know exactly what their kids are doing?

I don’t think so.. The last few months I have been privy to a situation involving a young family, their young school age son and a group of kids who for no other reason than to cause trouble,, have made the family’s life a nightmare…Not to mention the young son..

A couple of days ago… word got out about this group of boys who were on the warpath and decided to egg the nice family’s house and beat up on their young boy. This decision was made on the sole basis that their bullying of the young boy at school was not enough to satisfy them… Is that incredibly stupid or what? As soon as the nice family found out, they called the Police and just as the group/gang showed up at their house, so did a camera crew from a well known TV station and although they were there for something else, the reporter took it upon himself to ask the kids what they were doing..It was intimidating enough for them to run away, like the blatant little cowards they are.. Then, the Police force turned up wearing flack jackets and all their accoutrements needed for a gun battle..They found out where the gang leader was and went straight to their house to speak to the parents..

Thank goodness for that.. Thank you SAPOL.. South Australian Police Force. I hope those kids got the verbal tirade from their parents they deserved.. In this day and age, I have to wonder why in the hell are kids still doing this when anti bullying campaigns are flogged into their impressionable minds at school.. They obviously don’t get it…

I would love to see these bullies get community service time to go out and scrub graffiti from walls and to spend time with the Police talking about the effects of their cowardly behaviours. The parents should also be involved in it too.. They shouldn’t get away with it just because their idiot kids got caught..

I think there is a moral to this story..
If kids are going out in groups, they should be given strict instructions for their behaviours, their whereabouts and time limitations.. They should NOT be allowed to roam the streets because it leads to trouble and once they are in it up to their eyeballs it’s awfully hard to get out of it… Trouble ruins lives and not just the victims lives but the trouble makers too.
So to all the bullied kids out there.. Don’t be scared to speak out.. Get them where it hurts.. Tell the Police, tell your parents, tell someone..

Reviewing food for you

Standard

I do love food and I love getting dressed up to go out to eat especially lunch!
I remember years ago there was a lot of Dept of Health officers running around Adelaide doing regular checks of restaurants and cafes etc.. you know the hygiene in the kitchen, food storage, temperatures of food stuffs etc. If food wasn’t eaten at the table you would ask for a doggie bag to take it home for the dog! The waitress would inform you “It is against the law to allow anyone to take food home.” Ok, so why has this changed? Beats the hell out of me.. Now you can take most leftovers home from anywhere and no one cares..

But enough of that. I have been enjoying going out to lunch lately and I’ve begun writing my ratings on the venue for you to see for yourself. I’m finding most eating places have reasonable prices so if you have $30 on you, you can go out for a lovely meal with your friend or partner. That’s not a costly lunch either but you will be able to afford a good choice from the menu.
I give my rating and justification for it on my Facebook page so please join me on there. I will give you the honest truth about the venue and rate it on…. Food freshness, quality, quantity, selection.
Decor ambiance, cleanliness,
Prices good value
Kids kids meals
Service staff
Opening hours
and most of all whether it is suitable to go to eat if you’re on Marilyn’s Plan for Weight Loss.
It might sound strange of me to include the weight loss rating but if you’re on My Plan and you’re going out to eat, you will be glad I said it suits the Plan but most venues have enough of a selection for you to choose a good meal without worrying whether you should eat it or not.

I’ve been eating out a lot of late and enjoying myself immensely, taking a retired chef with me for their expert opinion and I can always count on having a child or two tagging along for their view on a meal. It’s not necessary for me to divulge to anyone who I am or what I’m doing until the end of the meal and I go to pay for it. I am quite happy to compliment the chef/cook and inform them how happy I and my guests were and I will be adding a review on my FB page. Many a face glows at the thought of this. It’s free advertising for them after all and I’m all for helping anyone or business if they are deserving. If I or my guests are disappointed in the meal, the service or the value, I will say nothing. I probably won’t tell you either because someone might just be having a bad day. If there is a health issue and I’m an expert in the filed of food hygiene, storage, cooking etc… I will inform the authorities and then post my experience.
So take heart. I’m not in the business of running places down, just letting the public know of my wonderful experience on the day.
Bon Appetite!
