A week of Wow!

Standard

My week last week was pretty mundane to begin with but then things hotted up..
My brother returned from Fiji where he spent time with his new family as per his new wife.
He turned up at our home at about 7 pm and was told freezing cold and totally worn out so we told him to stay the night. He slept on the floor on an air mattress in front of the lovely fire.
The next night he came over for dinner becasue he was a bit sick of eating curries and he also said ‘If I ever see another bgrain of rice I will die’

He was craving an ordinary meal with mashed potato, peas, beans, carrots, and meat with gravy so we provided. He scoffed the lot wish much relish! Hubby even heated up a christmas pudding with custard. Mmmm that went down a treat.
My brother showed us some of the photos he took while he was over there in Fiji and a couple of videos.
They were a lovely family. Very hospitable and caring. They looked after him so well he felt guilty. He said they wouldn’t let him do too much.. Every time he picked something up to do something with it, someone would come and take it from him and do it for him. Most of the family live in a 2 bedroom house and he and his wife were given the largest bedroom and the rest of the family slept in the second bedroom or on the foor in the loungeroom. We were quite concerned for him leaving Australia and going to a strange country and to stay with people we didn’t know but it was wonderful. Now we are all waiting for his wife’s return to Australia as we do miss her and we have planned to do more things to help her learn our culture and about our food etc…
Last night I was watching tv and saw a program called ‘Sunday Night’ on channel 7. The reporter was doing a segment on people smuggling. The smuggler was on there and told the reporter how he ‘ripped off’ these people to bring them to Australia, taking their money and promising the world but no guarantee. He told them to make up a story to tell our authorities to ensure they were able to stay here. Being Tortured, victimised etc… But they aren’t. These people pay thousands of dollers to get here and a lot of them don’t make it. Some even put up the papers to their homes to these smugglers and if they don’t make it they have lost everything. The Sri Lankan authorities are after them now and they want them all returned. The stupid thing is… Our Govt believes all their stories and allows them to come here under that guise. Then we hear they get PR and all go home for a holiday! The ones who come here by the right way are angry about it too.

I met an asylum seeker after he was released from a detention centre where he waited for 2 years to be processed. He said he was a shepherd in the mountains of his country and he didn’t have any trouble there but he just wanted to come to Australia for more money. Now he is going to tell the authorities he has depression because he misses his family and he knows his family will all be brought here too. His elderly family members don’t and won’t speak english because they don’t have to. The Govt provides an interpreter for them and they just stay on the dole for the rest of their lives. They don’t have to work. This was a real wakeup call to me but he had it all organised. I thought it odd he didn’t care what he told me but I suppose he also knows our stupid Parlimentarians don’t know and don’t care anyway. They let it all just happen because it gets more votes!

I have said it once and I will say it again. I don’t begrudge anyone a job or a decent living but when the sytem we rely on is rorted like this and I have no work, then I am bloody angry about it. I will be emailing the minister for immigration and having a shot! I will also send them a link to the program and urge them to watch it as well.

Then I had my birthday yesterday. It began very quietly as hubby went to work and little irl went to her friends place for the night. I’ll be honest, I was terribly lonely in the morning. Then at about 11 am, there was a knock on the door. It was the family. All bearing food and gifts, cards and best wishes. We had a lovely morning tea and my spirits were again on the up!

I’ve been washing bed linen for a week due to our little dog weeing on it at night. Bark Busters fixed that! My neice had them over her house to help with her 2 dogs and one of them was doing it on her son’s bed. She was telling me about it and I gave it a go. Bugger me… it worked. No more wee on the bed. The worst.. Climbing into bed at night and finding a wet spot. Ugh! Wake hubby, strip the bed, wash the plastic protective cover, dry it, re make the bed then climb in again. Exhausting.. It was a simple little thing and it worked. She now goes on the spot we picked out for her. We have incontinence sheets in a couple of places so if they cannot get outside, they can still go where it’s ok! I love successful interventions…
So that was my week… There were other things which really got to me but not enough room here for it..
I do hope your week was better.

Want to laugh your guts out???

Standard

I didn’t get work today so I decided to sit and watch a movie. Well, blow me down if there wasn’t a funny Australian movie on called ‘Their a Weird Mob’ We Australians do like to laugh at ourselves.

I think it was made in the early 70’s as you can see by the fashions and the cars etc..

It’s a film about an Italian immigrant coming to Australia and trying his darndest to integrate into Australia and learn the ‘Lingo’ and culture all the time trying to pay a relative’s debt. The main character’s name is Nino. It’s full of humour, some good hearted banter,Typical Aussie larikinism, drama but mostly the humour. Bigots are rife throughout but they add to the comedy of it. The other characters all help Nino in their way and it does have the most hilarious results too.

Nino is given a job with a building company and the first scenes with him helping to dig the foundations for a new home are hilarious. If you can get this film and watch it, good. You won’t be sorry. Maybe for the aching ribs after laughing so hard.

The cast are all very good Australian actors and actresses and one in particular is Tony Bonner playing a lifeguard on Bondi beach. It’s a typical good mates movie and it denotes the best of Australian mateship and humour. The camera work is raw as is some of the acting but that’s what makes it so good to watch. I won’t tell you what happens in the end but I thoroughly enjoyed it and laughed my guts out! I don’t often recommend movies but I do sincerely recommend this one. One of the last scenes with the men and the merangues made me laugh so much I had to run to the bathroom….Hubby came in halfway through it and we had tears in our eyes from laughing.

We need more humour to release endophins in our bodies and I thoroughly enjoyed releasing some of mine. If you can get it, then good. Enjoy!

Hiatus in August

Standard

I believe this has been the worst few months for so many people. I heard so much sadness and heartache from so many. Hearts have been broken, lives lost, loves lost, families lost…. It just didn’t end..
The dramatics have been slowing down. If only it will come to a halt and turn for the better for everyone.

Just of late I feel it in my bones and in the air, something is beginning. Perhaps it is the mending of those hearts and spirits and the terrible sadness and loss. I have been subjected to a lot of it myself and have begun to take on life with a new meaning. Engage and enjoy! Let loose but be cautious at the same time and don’t be too frivolous it could end up with you or me being taken advantage of again!

I believe it is a cleansing month and by the end of it, we will all be experiencing the turnaround to better times ahead.
I have taken stock of how my life is going and have made a few minor changes to make life a bit easier. Would you believe I was considering putting on weight due to the acceptance of the ‘Big is Beautiful’ theme now. Then I decided.. why should I do that? I am thin and I’m not going to put on weight for anyone or for anything. I don’t want the health problems I had when I was overweight. I am what I am and that’s it. I like myself the way I am. I am beginning to be happy again and to accept what I have. I have wonderful friends and some great family members… I support others in their goals in life and give encouragement and will continue to do so.

Have you copped anything like this? It is odd. I had a shift booked today and for the last few days I have had a bad feeling about the shift. This morning I got a phone call from my agency telling me the shift is cancelled. Ok, so no work this weekend.. AGAIN! I will take it on the chin because I believe and have for years, known there is some sort of order in our lives. If we are heading for something and we didn’t get it or it didn’t happen, we weren’t supposed to get it because it could have ended up differently. There could have been a tragedy but losing it helped us to avoid the tragedy. I might be needed at home because a friend or family member will win the big one tonight and come crashing through my door and need to be calmed!

So I get to stay home in the warm and safety of home and enjoy writing this to you. Things happen in the order they are supposed to. I believe in fate and I accept it because to try to change it would turn things around and not always for the better. We can want for things all our lives and never get them. We just might be better off without them!
Be happy with your lot in life especially if it’s not too bad and remember there is always some poor bugger out there worse off than we are.
Enjoy your day!
Oh, and with the Olympics almost at an end, has it made you want to get off your butt and lose some weight and get a little fitter? if this is so.. get onto my website http://www.marilynsplanforweightloss.com.au and do something about it. I love it because it works and it suits anyone and everyone. No age restrictions either. Even our beloved pets can be on it too! Woo Hoo!
Enjoy the weekend.

Am I boring you?

Standard

Don’t you dislike it when you are telling someone something and they display a noticeable look of “I’m not listening’ on their face? They have the ‘Stare’ the ‘Glazed’ look of total boredom….
I can see it and I cut the conversation short really quickly by saying something like ‘Be back in a minute’ The offending person is either startled or they just keep staring as if nothing has happened. They are so engrossed by their own importance and their own problems they don’t care about anything else. Very selfish people.

It’s so obvious.. I feel people like this are not really interested in you or your conversation at all and if it’s a habit then they’re not a friend. They have you hanging in there just for them! No other reason. They will burden you with their problems and expect advice, suggestions, sympathy and anything else they can drain from you. Yes, it’s draining alright. I cop this all the time and I’m sick of it.

I know a person who does this all the time. They ask me for help but as soon as I get past the justification for my suggestions, they vague out and that’s the end of it. All they want and need is to be able to tell someone. They just want to bore you to death. They don’t care about how it affects you or whether you have an answer for them. I find this particularly rude, offensive and emotionally draining, so if it happens again, I will cut the conversation even shorter and just walk!

I often wonder why after they have done this and you have done your best to help them, they keep along the same path. They make no changes, they do nothing to improve their situation but they certainly do keep up with the whining and grumbling.
Some days I am so emotionally drained I can’t stand anymore of it and I go into hiding…
What do you do???

Do dogs eat possum poop?

Standard

If a possums poops on the ground in you yard and a little dog eats it, will the dog get sick?
We now have a resdinet possum in our yard and I don’t know where he lives during the day or how he got in here but he poops everywhere and today I caught one of my little dogs eating a piece of poop. Will she get sick from eating it?

Time will tell and I’m not happy. We have a cat trap set up but this possum won’t go near it. I figure the food trap isn’t what the possum likes so I’ve suggested other things like a small piece of meat. I think the possum ate a rat we caught in our trap a few days ago, so meat might be the answer. It isn’t too interested in fruit though.
Hmmm what to do?
If anyone who reads this has any ideas, would you please let me know. I am desperate. I am sick and tired of having to comb the lawn for possum droppings before my two liltte girls can go outside for their run and play time.
